The 3 Paths of Rotation: How Beast Hack® Teaches You to Fix Your Own Swing

Every player at one time in their life has heard their coach yell "go with the pitch!" Unfortunately, most players only hear that phrase on outside pitches. What most players , and even some coaches, don't realize is that you should be "going with the pitch" on EVERY pitch, regardless of location.
The Beast Hack® hitting station teaches this concept automatically through what we call the "3 Paths of Rotation." When you strike the ball on the Beast Hack®, it spins. The direction of that spin tells you everything about what your hands did during the swing , and exactly how to fix it.
This is the foundation of self-teaching hitting, and it's what makes Beast Hack® unlike any other training device on the market.
The 3 Pitch Locations
Before we dive into the rotations, you need to understand the three basic pitch zones. We'll describe these for a right-handed hitter (lefties, just reverse everything):
- The Inside Pitch, ball is on the inner half of the plate
- Down the Middle, the pitcher's mistake pitch
- The Outside Pitch, the pitcher's pitch, on the outer half
Pro tip: Always master the pitch down the middle first. It's the foundation for everything else. A pitch down the middle is a pitcher's MISTAKE, and you should punish it every time.
Path 1: The Perfect Strike (Down the Middle)
When you're working on a pitch down the middle, the goal is to drive the ball straight back up the middle. On the Beast Hack® station, a perfect swing produces a rotation from 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock, straight back and forth.
This means:
- Your contact point was correct (directly across from your hands)
- Your hands were 4-6 inches off your front hip at contact
- The barrel was even with your hands
- You got directly behind the baseball
This is Path 1, and it's where every hitter should start.
Path 2: The Pull Side (Inside Pitch)
An inside pitch MUST be hit out in front, about 8-12 inches ahead of where you'd contact a middle pitch. You're pulling the ball to the pull-side gap.
On the Beast Hack® station, a correctly hit inside pitch produces a rotation angled toward the pull side. For a right-handed hitter, you'll see the ball spin on a diagonal from roughly 7-8 o'clock toward 1-2 o'clock.
What if you see Path 2 rotation when you're working on a DOWN THE MIDDLE pitch? That means your barrel got out in front too much. Here's how to fix it:
- Pull your hands in closer to your body
- Focus on getting your hands through the zone FIRST
- Let the barrel whip into the contact point
- Keep your back elbow tucked toward your side
Path 3: The Opposite Field (Outside Pitch)
The outside pitch is all about patience. Let the ball travel deep over the plate, and drive it to the opposite field gap.
On the Beast Hack® station, a correctly hit outside pitch produces a rotation angled toward the opposite field, the mirror image of Path 2.
The trick: Keep the same swing mechanics. Look at any great hitter , their body stays square to the pitcher on inside, middle, AND outside pitches. The only thing that changes is the timing of the swing and where the barrel meets the ball.
Why This Matters: Self-Coaching
Here's what makes this revolutionary: no other training device gives you feedback on all three paths.
Every other swing trainer on the market only produces Path 1 rotation, or no rotation at all. They can tell you if you hit the ball, but they can't tell you WHERE your hands were or HOW to fix your swing.
The Beast Hack® achieves this through a patented mechanical feature, the piston rod end that allows the ball to rotate on any axis. It's the non-obvious innovation protected by our utility patents, and it's what makes Beast Hack® a self-teaching tool rather than just a hitting station.
Start With the Middle
If you're new to Beast Hack® or new to hitting, always start with the pitch down the middle. Master Path 1, that perfect 6-to-12 rotation, before you ever work on inside or outside pitches.
Why? Because the pitch down the middle is the foundation. It's where you build your base swing mechanics, your muscle memory, and your confidence. Once you own the middle of the plate, you own the zone.
